Reference Books for Biblical Study

Years ago when I was first getting off the ground in biblical studies, I wrote the following two books. Although they are not much more than general reference tools, I think they serve anyone who wants some kind of an organized introduction to the Old and New Testaments. The Torah Concordance, in particular, is very useful for anyone who wants direct access to the teachings of the first five books of the Hebrew Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

The Torah Concordance was created from an original chronological listing of the instructions of the first five books of the Bible. That chronological list is available for free download. You may want to examine that document before buying The Torah Concordance. Follow the link below to learn more or download the chronological list.

The Torah Concordance is a useful tool to study the foundational vision of the entire biblical tradition. Unfortunately, I did not know Hebrew as well when I wrote this book as I do now, so the subtitle refers to the commandments as “law.” A better translation would be “instruction” or “teaching.” Nonetheless, with that caveat in mind, this book still serves the student of the Hebrew Bible well.

The New Testament Reference Guide of Requirements, Parables & Renowned Persons is useful for the beginner in New Testament and early Christian studies. Offering lists of the instructions of Jesus and the Apostles, as well as explanations of the parables, this book also contains biographies of characters involved in early church history.
